SPECIAL - EVY: Maggie Steber: The Secret Garden of Lily LaPalma - with Sarah Leen & Kerry Payne Stailey
Escape everything you were told about photography with Guggenheim grant recipient/photographer Maggie Steber. In addition to moving you forward in your thinking and practice of photography, this workshop offers you a safe place to expand your vision, build on creative ideas and fall in love with photography all over again.
Spend a week with Maggie in magical Maine, in the woods, by a lake and leave both reinvigorated and thinking differently about telling any story, whether it’s about how you see the world or something conjured up from your imagination in a single photograph or as a series.
Our goal for this week together is visual liberation.
On the first day, we will dive head first into brainstorming ideas you can work on during the week. We will look at photographs by various people working in this genre for inspiration.
You can bring a project already in the works or you can start fresh. You should be thinking about what you would like to do based on your past, your life, your loves, anything you want to address or share or create. Anything goes.
We will have class each day to review the previous days’ work and one-to-one meetings so that you get individual attention.
Participants should show 10 of their photographs on the first day to share a sense of where you are at. Show something risky, or a collection of images from a project or story you have shot. We will work on how to select your best work as well as sequencing and how you might write about your work.
This workshop is for experienced photographers and artists who want to break out of the box and experiment with new ideas.
